Why I left Kindle for one book, and AngelWitch is done! Life After College!

Blank notepad over laptop and coffee cup

School is over leaving me to focus on finding a full time job, and it also means I can focus on other projects. AngelWtich rough draft is also done, and since it was by hand I have to put all the changes in the word doc. I also pulled Tales from Behind the Counter from Kindle Unlimited and I left The Killer Contract Agency there since it might do better. I’m at a cross roads in my life since I’m out of school it gives me time to focus on the stuff I want to do. I’m also uploading gameplay videos to a separate Youtube channel then my author one. My plan is to write books full-time and make Youtube videos full-time too, but those take time.

Life after college is way different when you are used to going to school. You now have the option of just working and that is it. It’s also hard to get a job right out of the gate too. In the meantime I’m just applying places and hoping something comes up. The other thing going on is my boyfriend Chris and I are doing gameplay videos together. I play hidden object games, horror, and roleplaying ones. Even a few first-person shooters like Bioshock.

I have time to do more Youtube videos thanks to school being done, and time to read and review my favorite books. I also sent A Witchy Beginning to readers to see if it really does need to be new adult instead of young adult, and they said it doesn’t need to be changed. I won’t and when I get the feedback I will go over it again. It may actually be closer to publication then I thought. I’ll update my blog more, and let you know the progress of my books. I’ll also tell you the story behind AngelWitch too.

Until next time,

Youtube and my journey:

I started my Youtube channel in 2012, and my first video was me recording my guinea pig eating at the time. I didn’t post an intro video till 2014, and that is when I’ve been more active on Youtube. I didn’t come up with a consistent schedule either. And to this day I have 56 subscribers not that much. And lately I’ve been doing so much research that I want to film more videos, and become successful with it since I love gaming I created a gaming channel. I made a Youtube banner, and even created a logo with the logo making software. So far I’ve filmed 68 videos about my books, author stuff, and I was even in the Giant Authortube Collab last summer! I first started out with my HP laptop, and used the webcam built in. I used the program Youcam to film videos, and adjusted everything. I upgraded to a Logitech Webcam, and I still use Youcam to record. I put all the footage in Cyberlink Powerdirector, and then upload it to Youtube once it’s an MP4 video. I even got a gaming headset for my gaming channel videos, and got the program Bandicam to record gameplay. Of course, if you have Steam and use a controller it allows you to record gameplay by just hitting the middle button on the controller.

I also completed my first walkthrough for Haunted Halls and finished the game, and added it to a playlist here is the link:

I will add more videos to both channels, and upload more regularly. I am planning on talking about the journey to publication and the self-publishing process on my author channel as well as doing videos on my favorite books. I also plan on filming more hidden object game walkthroughs for my gaming channel.

The Killer Contract Agency is republished, and I’m almost done with the rough draft on AngelWitch.

I’ll keep you updated on everything since school is over. I might even talk about my college experience too on my authortube channel.

Until next time,

Onward and Upward!

Old books on wooden table

2017 was an interesting year for me to say the least, but I’m actually looking forward to 2018. My birthday was yesterday, and I turned 27. I don’t feel it or look it, but I know I’ll be at a better place soon mentally. I graduate in December which means my time at VCU is almost up. I finally got someone to narrate my book Tales From Behind the Counter, and I’ll post when it’s done. I’m trying to finish AngelWitch at least, and all I need to do is write her last two weeks then the rough draft is done. It’s been a wild ride since this semester at VCU we are working with CBS 6, and come the elections I’ll be working in the newsroom. I’ve also given more thought of what I want to do. I’ve been working retail during the weekends, and going to school. It’s left me in a rut in a way. After school I’ll need to start looking for a new job in the field I want. I’ve been getting tired of retail too, and it’s the same old, same old thing. People complain over the stupidest stuff, and are rude too. It’s all been there, done that, and I’m ready for a change. Also been doing a ton of book buying and game playing too. It’s just been a finish school and get my degree then come up with the next steps. Also, save up money for editing my books and cover art. That is all I need to afford anyway since I have Vellum to format my books. Best money I’ve ever spent. In the meantime I’m working on books and writing stories as a journalist in the IPad Journal project at VCU.

Tales Behind the Counter is out for Kindle!

front final

My book is finally out in Kindle form, but the paperback had issues since I wanted to use colored because I designed a pretty blue chapter heading, but it didn’t show up on the print one. It’s being reviewed and the minimum price was 40.63…nope too much. As soon as it’s done being reviewed I’m changing it to black and white. Then after it’s reviewed I can order my proof in the meantime here is the Kindle version for $0.99 just for 5 days, and then it will be going up to $2.99.

If you think the customer is always right, you’ve never worked at a place like Kyle’s before.

Angeline has seen it all–crazy, stupid, and even mean. For the last five years, customers have tormented her daily in over five departments at her workplace, Kyle’s General Store. In one chapter, she gives advice on surviving retail and shares her biggest pet peeves in the departments she has worked in. Join Angeline down memory lane as she tells her stories about crazy customers and the downright stupid questions they ask.

I’ve also put it in Kindle Select, and it’s free if you have a kindle unlimited version.

I’ll keep you posted on the paper back version!

Until next time,

Where I have been:

School started way earlier then I thought, and it’s been nonstop article writing for Capital News Service. It’s pretty cool since it covers the Capitol and the Virginia General Assembly. It’s been amazing seeing the results too since this class means you actually get published too.

I’ve done a ton of stories, and here are the links for them so far:

It’s been a wild ride, and I hope to finish up the last two semesters at VCU strong. I will graduate in December, and finally receive my degree A Bachelors in Mass Communications for Print/Online Journalism.

It will be good to be done with VCU, and get my degree. I’m definitely going to love journalism. On the writing front I’ve been working on finishing #AngelWitch and Tales From Behind the Counter needs to have more of a narrative to it. It’s a wild ride with that book, and I hope to have more out soon.

I’m going to start blogging more once a week, and I can make it related to my novels. Like character sheets, excerpts, and I want to plan to have out more stories so I can get myself out there. At the end of the day I’ll have my writing even if school comes to an end my stories and novels will always be there. I also updated my website, and I can do more with it since I got the premium. I want to start a newsletter since I want to offer some free stories just for subscribing.

Do you subscribe to a newsletter? How often do you want them? What do you hope to see from it?

Until next time,

Jessica Samuels

Updates for October…

It has been sometime since I’ve posted an update, and this is what I’ve been up to. I go to school Monday-Thursday and work Friday-Sunday which is keeping me busy…Not that I’ll be busy for long since I don’t have that much longer till this semester is over. My last day is December 8th…I can’t wait since I don’t like going to school 4 days in a row, and next semester is one class only. I’ll of course have to find an internship before I graduate next fall. No worries there since I need to step it up. I’ve been working on Tales From Behind the Counter and AngelWitch the most since I need to get those out soon. I plan on having a 6 book series for AngelWitch, and it will be self explanatory when AngelWitch comes out why it will be six books. Of course this year I want to attempt National Novel Writing Month again, and use the book A Witchy Beginning which will be set in college instead of high school. I want to include elements from The Killer Contract Agency in  it, and it will tell you what happens after Salina and Carter took over. You’ll even get to see it play out differently and I can’t wait. All my books are going to involve soulmates since I believe there is someone for everyone. I read a lot too lately and I can’t wait till school is over since I want to write full time instead of work retail which will be a goal of mine. I’m also going to be trying out Kindle Select for the first time since sales aren’t good for me with other outlets. I have 90 days then I can go wide if I wish to. I just want to get through school to have more time to write, and I might want to try other things with the blog too. I just haven’t had time to do much, but once the holidays hit I can write, edit, and publish more…Just need to hang in there and get through school.

Until next time,

Retail, Tales from Behind the Counter, and AngelWtich Stuff…

Vampire in retail teaser...
So in case my followers don’t know I work retail, and have been for almost five years. I’ve created several books because of it: Being a Vampire in Retail Sucks, Angel Witch is heavily involved in retail, and Tales From Behind the Counter…All in an effort to make fun of a job because of how crappy it can be. Being a sales associate is not easy, and if you think it is you try working it for a week or on holidays to see how crazy it can drive you. Sometimes it’s just you doing several departments at once, and when you do them at the same time it will drive you to drink. Dealing with customers, coworkers and managers is a lot since people can be rude, nasty, and down right hateful toward you. I’ve been getting fed up with it all since half of the time I’m yelled at it’s not even my fault. There is no need to be rude to someone trying to help you. If I can do it I will, but you don’t need to be so nasty to me. People can be horrible to retail workers treating them like they are the scenery instead of a person. I’ve had a guy whistle at me to get my attention like I’m a dog instead of a person, and I said nothing but I was very tempted to say thanks for whistling at me to get my attention jackass. I can’t stand it. Also people treat me like I’m stupid, and then talk to me like I’m a child. I get it but I’m 25 don’t ever treat me like a child.

It’s not easy, and the phone people are worse since one guy was being an asshole when he wanted me to get insulin off the sales floor. It’s refrigerated and apparently you don’t need a prescription but you still have to get it from the pharmacy. He was such a jerk about it saying can you look for it for me…Yes, sure. Before he said well since pharmacy is closed it would do no good to transfer me. Duh. I’m not stupid. I told him we did not have it on the sales floor, and he got mad asking me if I looked. No, since he can’t get it unless the pharmacy is open, and then asked for my name. Please, complain on me since I can’t perform miracles…Also if I say hi to you when I’m working don’t fucking ignore me. I’m trying to be nice to you, and when you do that it shows that I should not say anything. And if we can’t do something we can’t do it. Phrasing the questions differently is still going to be met with the same answer. Begging me for the item and wanting me to have it when I don’t is not going to make it magically appear. Is it any wonder why some retail workers are miserable? They are because they are over worked, picked on, and treated like dirt. But I don’t want to just tell you. I want to show you which is why Tales From Behind the Counter will show people what it’s like to work retail. It’s not all good, and there are times when I want to rage quit because of some asshole customer, or a retarded policy change. If we are out of an item it’s not up to us to afford it but to the company instead. We don’t know when we will get something in since they don’t tell us when we will get it in at all. I’m sick of people who try to guilt us into pulling an item out of the back since it’ s not there….
I could go on and on about it which is why I wrote Tales From Behind the Counter. It is a collection of stories from me working retail, but I’ll be using Angeline in my place and Kyle’s General Store as the place since I can’t use the real name of me or the store I work at. It will tell people the good, bad, and the horrible. People can be rude and horrible to retail workers, and I want to show just how rude and stupid they can be. From getting yelled at on the phone to people getting mad that we can’t pull the items they are looking for out of our ass. It will have it all. It’s not for everyone and if you have not worked retail then you might not understand it at all, or thinking I’m rambling and ranting while using too many curse words. It was fun and I hope to have it out in the future. The other book is called AngelWitch, and we return to our favorite loud mouthed sales associate that can feel people in her head, and she is still at Kyle’s. It’s coming to an end though once she finds out who she really is and I’m still in the process of writing her last two weeks. Then the rough draft will be done of book 1…Here is an excerpt for the stuff in store for the next books since it’s a series:
As soon as my skin touched the stone I was whisked away. I could feel all four of them in my head. 4 girls with 4 different stories and backgrounds.
One girl in her room looking for that one special guy to spend time with. One having an Obsession Spell on her because the guy who wanted her is a psycho. One witch running from an evil witch coven. One lost her way in the Crystal Crest realm after her twin ruined her life. I see it all and each of them has the power to help me stop the evil threatening this harmony I came back to myself.
I hope you enjoyed this, and I can’t wait to release these books to the world.

Until next time,

Jessica Samuels
