perseveranceToday I am happy to be part of Writers Persevere!, an event that authors Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi are running for the next few days to celebrate their release of their newest book, The Emotional Wound Thesaurus: A Writer’s Guide to Psychological Trauma. This book looks at the difficult experiences embedded in our character’s backstory which will shape their motivation and behavior afterward.

Because Angela and Becca have spent the last year exploring painful human struggles, they wanted to highlight a very important aspect of overcoming difficult circumstances: it can make us stronger. I promised to let Angela hijack my blog today, so please read on!

***

Hi everyone! When you set out to find examples of inner strength, you don’t have to go very far. Right here in the writing community we see it every day. Writers more than anyone understand the swirl of emotions as we work toward publication. We dream of making it and seeing our books in the hands of readers…yet doubt and frustration can be a constant companion. For us, there is a lot to learn, much to steel our nerves for, and unfortunately, a host of real-world problems that can try to derail us. And, even as we slowly move forward and grow, we can sometimes feel like impostors. This is a tough road.

But the fact that writers face this battle, day after day, and KEEP GOING…this should be celebrated! We need to be reminded that we are much stronger than we sometimes believe. We dream, create, and force ourselves to keep striving. Through the ups and downs, we persevere!

Have you encountered something on the writing road that made you question yourself? Have you faced an obstacle that required a force of will to get past?

Writers helping writersIf so, we want to hear about it! Join Becca and me at Writers Helping Writers from October 25-27th, where we are celebrating writers and their stories of perseverance. Stop in, and tell us about a challenge or struggle your faced, or if you like, join this event by writing a post on your own blog and share it using the hashtag #writerspersevere.  Let’s fill social media with your strength and let other writers know that it’s okay to question and have doubts but we shouldn’t let that stop us.

GIVEAWAY ALERT!

We also have a prize vault filled with items that can give your writing career a boost, so stop by Writers Helping Writers. I would love for one of you to win something that will help you get closer to your goal!

If you struggle, remember to reach out to others. We are in this together, and by supporting one another, we cross the finish line together (and then keep going!).

Happy writing!

Angela & Becca

Yet another year comes to a close, and I find myself thinking about the events of this past year. It has been a wild ride for me since the summer was one of the hardest summers I’ve had in a while. However, I did publish an ebook. I also took a chance dating someone new, and it worked out for the best since he is moving in at the end of April. I’ve lost people who were not good for me, and I’m finally in a relationship that makes me happy. I love him, and it’s been a few years since I’ve been this happy. I’m finishing the last semester of basic classes before taking ones in my field. The next year I will be taking strictly major and minor classes. I love it! Journalism classes this semester. I can’t wait to get back into it. I also have my goals already for the 2015 year which is to finish the four projects I need to get done maybe 6. I also will try to publish a paperback and audio books as well. I want to read more fiction and non fiction books and review them on my blog. I really should blog more because I’ve been bad about updating the blog. I hope I can do them all, and thanks for being there through everything.

Until next time,

Dark Tales of Vengeance is out!

1

Dark_Tales_Of_Vengeance_Cover

I am happy to announce I have finally released an ebook, and it has been a few years since my first one. I love the cover,  and I am happy with the results.

What is it about?

Revenge comes in many forms, and in many ways. These are short stories about getting even with bullies, exes who have come back from the grave, and even getting even with evil bosses and coworkers. It even has the original version of The Killer Contract Agency, and Boyfriend Missing; Ex is a Zombie. There are a few short stories featuring Scarlet Summers who is the main character in Being a Vampire in Retail Sucks!, and she is a character that loves getting even with bullying men, and one that features Ella who is an assassin that focuses on getting rid of evil bosses and coworkers.

All fun stuff, and it even has violence, strong language, and it even has a bonus chapter of Being a Vampire in Retail Sucks! I do have a release date: October 31st. I have always wanted to release a work on that date since I love Halloween!

Changing my story description..And other future blog posts.

2

Today I was thinking about my book, and the reason why it did not sell that much. I thought about my description, and realized how boring it sounded. I decided to change it. So it went from this:

The Killer Contract Agency, hires bully victims to eliminate and kill their tormentors. The Agency has invented a machine to predict how they grow up, and the bullies are members of the Malian race.

Salina was bullied to the point where she was almost killed, and the Agency finds her, and hires her to take them out one by one.

To this finally:

Salina was bullied too much, and The Killer Contract Agency invented a machine that can predict what people will grow up to become which is why they hired Salina. Her bullies are going to grow up to commit horrible crimes. Now she is allowed to get her revenge. Join her as she takes down 13 of the bullies on her hit list. Using various weapons and disguises to do the deeds. Thanks to the Killer Contract Agency she is now allowed to get her revenge without being sent to jail.
In other news there is a post coming up that lists all the writing related books I have, and I will be doing reviews on them as well. Another future blog post will be on writing prompts since I am taking a creative writing class, and we are doing writing prompts during class. The prompts are so fun I have used them as starting points for stories. I will list the prompt, and the work that I produce because of it.
Until next time,

My Smashwords Experience..

4

It took me time to write out my experience, and a few ebooks to get from the actual website is: The Smashwords Book Marketing Guide and The Smashwords Style Guide they are both free, but they tell you the basics of ebook publishing with their website.

Here is my experience:

My Smashwords Experience
After tons of research on e-publishing I decided to use Smahwords as my ebook distributor. It was not an easy task.

I had to spend days  getting everything right. That means creating the story. Editing, and finding an editor to make my work shine. I had to find someone to help me create a good ebook cover. Thankfully I have my friend Eyvonne who is a very talented artist. She made the cover.

After everything was said and done I had to upload the cover as a .jpeg file, and the text of the story as a word .doc. I had to wait as it was converted to all the different formats. Then it kept having issues with the document, and it took me 4 times to correct it. After it was done it was published, and I had yet to get it into the premium catalogue there.

The premium catalogue:
Here is a quote on what the premium catalogue is from the Smashwords website: “Premium Catalog (Reaches Major Retailers): Once your book is accepted into the Premium Catalog, we automatically distribute it to major online retailers such as Apple, Barnes & Noble, Sony, Kobo, Borders Australia and Angus & Robertson Australia (both powered by Kobo), Whitcoulls (New Zealand, powered by Kobo), the Diesel eBook Store and other distribution outlets coming soon. On May 4, 2011, we announced a distribution agreement with ScrollMotion which will make all Premium Catalog titles available as single-book apps for sale in the major mobile app marketplaces (click here to see announcement) including Apple, Android, Windows Phone 7 and HP’s WebOS.”

I made all the changes to my stuff, and I have yet to make it in. After that was done I uploaded my short story ebook to the kindle  website, and filled out the information to sell it there.  After all that was done it was time to market it. I have yet to figure out how to properly do it since I just started. That is my experience, and it thrills me to not end to announce to my friends that I am a published author. I am also happy to see my book at different places.
I hope you found it helpful, and I am just starting out with it. I hope we talk again.
Until next time,
Wolfdreamer25

My First Ebook:
I am happy to say that I am now a published author. I self-published through Smashwords, and made the ebook $1.99. It is an amazing feeling knowing my work is out there. The hard part is going to be marketing because I have no idea how to go about doing it. I am glad that I achieved my goal of publishing before I started school.
I still have four more to go until I tackle the bigger projects. I am working on the short story ebooks, and the poem ones. I hope to be done with all of them by the end of the fall semester. After that I am knocking out the novel to the second book in The Killer Contract Agency series.
Until next time,

New Beginnings

2

I have discovered why I have been feeling so down lately. I have not been working, and that is actually the situation that has upset me the most. I need to work in order to make money, and it keeps me busy. It still bugs me to be at home without school and work. I will be happier once I start school, and get a job. I will still write everyday, so that will not stop. It is still depressing at times, and I feel like my life is going nowhere.

I have stopped thinking that way though because I know what I have to do now. I am going to continue to work on the ebooks. Work on writing and editing. I am going to make ebook videos to promote my work. Things will get better when I get a job, and start school. I will soon finish editing my novel, write a query letter, and hopefully get an agent, and then a publisher.
Until next time,
